The BCAC Annual Opening Day Parade
April 16th, 2016
The 21st Annual Opening Day Parade for Baseball/Softball was held on Saturday, April 16th at 9:30 am. Athletes from the BCAC Baseball, Softball and In-house leagues gathered for the annual parade to kick-off the season. Festivities began at the 17th Road park where the marchers met with their teams and coaches and then proceeded to walk through Broad Channel to the BCAC Memorial Field. The families of BCAC Founder John Wagner and Dawn McIntyre, who both were instrumental to the club in many ways, were given plaques in their memory. A member from each family then threw out a first pitch to start the season. The diamond where the ceremony took place will now be known as John Wagner Field.
Our elected officials, Senator Joe Addabbo, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Councilman Eric Ulrich, Assemblyman Philip Goldfeder's representative Jon Greenfield, and Broad Channel Civic President Dan Mundy, all addressed the crowd and Father Richie blessed the players and the field. Members of the PS 47 Choir sang beautifully during the event!
The day continued with bouncy rides, snacks and drinks and games for the kids as well as the first games for the in-house divisions. Thanks to all who participated in this wonderful tradition!
